Smart TV Security and Privacy Guide
What your Smart TV collects
Smart TVs collect viewing data, app usage, voice searches (if enabled), and sometimes listen to conversations via built-in microphones.
Turn off ACR (Automatic Content Recognition)
Settings > Privacy > Viewing Data or ACR. Turn off automatic content recognition. This stops your TV from tracking what you watch.
Turn off voice tracking
If your TV has a microphone, you can disable voice features in settings. This prevents the TV from listening.
Turn off ad tracking
Settings > Privacy > Interest-Based Advertising. Turn off. This limits ad targeting based on your viewing habits.
Use a VPN for privacy
A VPN encrypts your internet traffic so your ISP cannot see what you stream. It does not hide activity from the TV manufacturer.
Keep firmware updated
Security updates fix vulnerabilities. Keep your TV firmware current to protect against known exploits.
