4K Streaming Setup on Smart TV

If you have a 4K TV and fast internet, here is how to get the best picture quality from streaming.

4K Streaming Setup on Smart TV

4K requirements

You need: a 4K TV, 25+ Mbps internet speed, 4K content from your provider, and a 4K-capable streaming device or app.

Is all content available in 4K?

No. Most live TV channels stream in HD (1080p). Some VOD movies and series may be available in 4K. Check with your provider about 4K content availability.

TV settings for 4K

Make sure your TV is set to 4K resolution (2160p). Enable HDMI UHD color or HDMI 2.1 for the port you are using. Some TVs need per-port 4K activation.

4K and internet speed

4K streaming uses 15-25 Mbps per stream. If your internet is below 25 Mbps, you will get HD instead of 4K. Test your speed at the TV location.

External device for 4K

If your Smart TV's built-in streaming is not 4K-capable, use an external 4K device like Firestick 4K Max or Nvidia Shield. Make sure the HDMI port supports 4K (usually HDMI 1 or 2).
