Internet Speed for Smart TV Streaming

Your internet speed is the biggest factor in streaming quality. Here is what you need.

Internet Speed for Smart TV Streaming

Minimum speed requirements

SD streaming: 5 Mbps. HD streaming: 10 Mbps. 4K streaming: 25 Mbps. These are per-device — multiple devices need more bandwidth.

Smart TV WiFi issues

Many Smart TVs have weak WiFi receivers. If your TV is far from your router, you may get slower speeds than your phone at the same location.

Wired Ethernet for Smart TV

If your TV has an Ethernet port, use it. Wired is always more stable than WiFi for streaming. If your TV does not have Ethernet, use a WiFi extender or mesh system.

How to test speed on your TV

Some Smart TVs have a speed test in settings. Alternatively, use a browser-based speed test on the TV. Test at the TV's location, not on your phone.
